This number is down to 5,159 from 11,081 in 2016, down 53.44%. A similar drop was observed to pre-pandemic levels, when 9,332 decisions were made, still 44.71% higher than in 2020.
However, as Equality Minister Roderic O’Gorman previously reported, the number of asylum applications has increased in the country.
According to an Irish Times report, a total of 333 people applied for international protection in Ireland, six times more than in 2020 (44). The same report shows that in 2020, 60 people applied for international security per month.
According to the EU Asylum Agency, the number of asylum applications from minors increased in a block of 27 countries, with 3,300 applications in October and 3,200 applications in November, the highest number of applications from missing minors since 2015.at rates, and also makes up five percent of all applicants who registered in November.
Afghan citizens made up about half of all unaccompanied minor claims, followed by citizens of Syria, Somalia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The same source revealed that in November 2021, EU authorities accepted 71,400 asylum applications for international protection, the second highest number since 2017.
